"Battlefield Play4Free Closed Beta

"Uusi" ilmainen Battlefield peli DICE:n Easy Studiosilta (Battlefield: Heroes) joka perustuu BF2:en pelimoottoriin ja koodiin. Pelissä tulee olemaan BF2:n parhaita kenttiä plus joskus ehkä joitain uusiakin? Pelin grafiikkamoottoria on kyllä vähän uusittu ja nyt pelissä taistelevat Jenkit (US Army) ja Venäläiset (Russian Army)

With senior producer James Salt showing me around, Play4Free appears to be an fairly pretty proposition for a free online game. Draw distances are good, assets are detailed, and there's still room on the download for the developer to pay attention to the atmosphere of the contemporary videogame warzone.

"Colour grading, film grain, and depth of field effects: we've got all that stuff," says Salt. "We think people will be quite surprised at the quality, actually."

Karkand's a launch-day map, and it's based on Battlefield 2's Strike at Karkand. "We've made the play area quite a bit smaller, and we've got a very different kind of layout," says Salt.

"It looks like Battlefield 2 at first, but buildings and tactical spots have been moved around. There's still a lot of room, though. A lot of modern FPS games go for the really tight spaces, so it's been refreshing to open things out again."

Play4Free will ship with a new mode that revolves around capturing a series of flags and then holding them long enough to start earning points. The more flags you have, the quicker you earn, and the first team to reach the target level wins.

It's a game type so newly minted that DICE hasn't even named it yet ("What do you think about Assault?" asks Salt. I'll see how I feel after I've eaten, eh James) and despite the tightened confines of Karkand, there's still plenty of room for Play4Free's 16 vehicles to intrude. The game will support up to 32 players, too, so Karkand's going to get crowded.

Despite the relatively fancy visuals, DICE is aiming to keep the download footprint as close to the 500MB of Battlefield Heroes as possible. It seems that the other free-to-play concern – the economy – shouldn't be intruding into the warfare too much. The developers are more than aware that most players aren't going to want to pay a single penny, according to Salt.

We started work in January 2010, with a full team working on it since August.

Why did you make this game?
Community feedback (LOTs of it and for that we thank all of you) and our own research into the Battlefield Heroes audience and free-to-play shooter fans generally told us that you are pretty hardcore, and the majority of you actually really like and want modern, military-style shooters.

So we decided to take what we’ve learned from Battlefield Heroes and create a brand new, modern, military shooter; taking the most popular features of Battlefield Heroes and bringing them into a whole new setting with the help of content and features from other Battlefield titles.

When does Battlefield Play4Free come out?
Closed Beta will start November 30th, 2010. Open Beta is scheduled for early 2011.

Can I use my Battlefield Heroes account for Battlefield Play4Free?
When registering for and once you start playing Battlefield Play4Free, we encourage you to use your existing Battlefield Heroes account, but you can’t move characters between the two games.

What kind of items will there be in the Battlefield Play4Free store?
Very similar to the selection for Battlefield Heroes. Visual customization items, weapons, widgets (although they won’t be called that) etc.

How do I sign up for The Battlefield Play4Free beta?

What is your priority – Battlefield Heroes or Battlefield Play4Free?
Both are prioritized equally. Battlefield Heroes already has a huge community and is a very important game to us (it’s EA’s biggest Play4Free game). Battlefield Play4Free, however, is in a heavy development phase and therefore needs quite a bit of attention too.

What game is better, Battlefield Heroes or Battlefield Play4Free?
Despite sharing a lot of similarities, both games are very different in feel. Battlefield Heroes is more light-hearted, arcade-like and cartoony. Battlefield Play4Free is more serious, realistic, violent and gritty.

We enjoy playing both.

Will I be able to use my Battlefunds in Battlefield Play4Free?
Yes! As long as you use the same account for both games, your Battlefund balance will be shared between both games!

Can I use my VP or HP in Battlefield Play4Free?
Nope – Battlefield Play4Free will have two new currencies to replace VP and HP, so these will not be shared between games

I’ve been playing Heroes forever, do I get a reward for this in Battlefield Play4Free?
We are working hard on creating lots of cool connections between the titles, but are not talking about them at the moment. Imagine unlocking cool stuff in Battlefield Play4Free if you have done something (hit a level, done a mission) in Battlefield Heroes, and vice-versa. We want you guys to play and enjoy both games, so we will work on rewards for doing so.

So you are just trying to get us to spend money in two games then? Damn money-grabbing EA…
Definitely not. You guys are free to choose whether to buy Battlefunds or play for free in both titles. The vast majority of Heroes players never spend any money, and we expect this to also be the case for Battlefield Play4Free.

We also expect Battlefield Play4Free to bring in a whole new audience, who were put off Battlefield Heroes by the cartoony graphics and less serious feel of the game.

How does Battlefield Play4Free relate to Battlefield 3?
Like our connections with Battlefield Heroes, we are working on deep connections between Battlefield Play4Free and the upcoming Battlefield 3. If you plan to play Battlefield 3, we would advise you get into Battlefield Play4Free at the earliest opportunity!!

Muuten ihan asiallinen setti, mutta olis toivonut 64 pelaajan versiota myös.
Mut kaiketi toi 32 johtuu siitä ettei ala moottori nikottelemaan, kun sitä on kaiketi vähän modattu.

Noh, anyway..tulipa laitettua oma sähköposti tonne, jos vaikka pääsis beetaamaan tota.

Hyvin on onnistuttu säilyttämään edes jotain vanhaa. Pessimistinen olen, että pelidynamiikka säilyisi samanlaisena kuin BF2:ssa. Eiköhän sieltä BC2 mekaniikkaa tule mukaan, eli prone eikä lievä bunnyhopping onnistu. Tuo lause missä sanotaan, että pelialuetta olisi pienenetty ei myöskään miellytä. Ilmeisesti ei voisi siis juosta kentän reunoilta takana oleville lipuille...

Joo ja siellä oli lieviä vihjauksia, että tosta Battlefield Play4free saatetaan integroida ominaisuuksia BF3:seenkin.

Toivottavasti nyt ei niitä paskimpia ominaisuuksia ainakaan, kuten pronen poisto.

No perkele. Missäs minun koodi viipyy.
Ei sen puoleen, kanttori kehui niin maan rakoon tuon pelin, että ei hirveästi jää kaivelemaan jos koodia ei tipukaan.

Pronen puute on mielestäni edelleen suurin kirous peleissä minkä voi tehdä.
Kyllä se kuuluu jokaiseen hyvin suunniteltuun sotapeliin, että pääsee levyksi ja suojautumaan luotisateelta matalempienkin esteiden taakse.
Voisivat ottaa BF2:sta oppia. Siinä oli hyvä sotapeli, joka ei olis muuta kaivannut kuin päivityksen graafiseen puoleen ja äänimaailmaan. Pelimekaaniikkaan sen kummemmin koskematta. Toki jotkut vaihtuvat vuorokausi systeemi(aamu, iltahämärä ja yö) sekä erilaiset ilmastolliset vaihtelevat olosuhteet olis ollut kans aika POP.

Paskaa tuli niinkuin odotettiinkin. Grafiikkapäivitys olisi mielestäni kuitenkin sopinut BF2:seen.

Mä oon täysin samaa mieltä. BF2:een ei tarttis muuta korjata kuin ulkonäkö ja homma rokkais. Pahoin pelkään, että BF3 tulee silti olemaan ihan samaa konsolikakkaa.

Vietnami olis nyt pelattavissa, mutta EA:n törpöt ei ole vieläkään lähettänyt redeem koodia jolla pääsis aktivoimaan vietnamin.

Tuli testattua muutama tunti tätä ja ei se nyt ihan totaalista paskaa ole ,beta kun on niin ei kaikki toimi

servulla oli aikamoinen lagi ja löytyi jopa haxerikin "killing 4 free" mut sit se lähti

kumminkin hitboxit toimis vähänmiten sattuu pitkältä matkalta ei rekannut ollenkaan vaikka kuula kerrallaan ampuu päähän ja sitten saas sarjalla sinnepäin niin osus mut ei tappanu (super-soft core) 7laakia vodnikin tornista niin sitten vasta kuoli.

m16 osuu ihan kivasti,kitin vaihto ja makuulle pääsemisen puuttuminen vituttaa ja kranaatteja,c4,tuubia ja mortaria ei löytynyt ainakaan vielä
